How to Plan Your Week Like a Football Coach

Plan your week like a football coach by picking one outcome, calling three plays, and putting each play on the calendar. A play is one action you can finish in a single session.

Pick one outcome for Friday

Ask what you want to be able to point to at the end of the week. Instead of “work on my website,” try “publish a product page that answers the three questions customers ask most.”

Call three plays

  1. Monday, 20 minutes: Review customer messages and write down three common questions.
  2. Wednesday, 30 minutes: Draft short answers and add them to the product page.
  3. Friday, 15 minutes: Read the page on your phone and publish it after checking the details.

Decide how you’ll adjust

If Wednesday gets crowded, move that play to Thursday. If you only have ten minutes, draft the answer to the most common question first. Give the remaining work its own time slot.

Review the tape

On Friday, ask what got done, what got in the way, and what you’ll change next week. Write one adjustment before you close the calendar.
